Alter Moderna is a performance art/music group led by musician Monique van Deursen and fine artist/performance artist Jessica van Deursen.
Over the past five years, they have created a series of interdisciplinary art performances in which they reflect, from a speculative futuristic
‘alter-modern’ perspective, on humanity’s enduring struggle to overcome its relentless desire to control life and nature, and instead learn to live in trust and surrender to natural symbiosis. Their work explores how humanity might evolve toward a less destructive consciousness and species, while urging us to act now, while there is still so much beauty and goodness left on our planet, worth fighting for.
Alter Moderna has presented performances developed within this project at Riga Performance Art Festival (LV), Live Art Lab (NY, USA), The Performance Bar (NL), Witte Rook (NL), Pictura (NL), and other venues. Their latest video clips, accompanying their debut album
Returning Home (2025), have gone viral on YouTube. And now, Alter Moderna is ready to take on the live stage.
